Orthopedics is the use of appliances to promote the growth and position of the jaw bones in the developing child. These appliances can include expanders to promote size to accomodate the teeth, and positioning appliances to help the forward position of the jaws. Expansion is ideally done before the pubertal growth and positioning type therapy done during pubertal growth. The benefits of interceptive orthopedics can last a lifetime, and often result in minimizing orthodontic therapy needs.
This case involved expansion, intrusion of the back teeth and habit modification.
